About

In the past, I constructed my wearables using a variety of on and off-the-loom techniques to produce one-of-a-kind and limited edition items.
Spontaneity and a sense of humor were essential to my process.
Many pieces were reversible and could be worn in different ways. The geometric construction, 3D shaping, surface patterns, decoration, and joining are most often ‘in the knit’ rather than secondary operations.
Throughout the process I have been intimately involved and engaged: creating and choosing techniques, incorporating surface embellishment.
I’m frequently seduced by the endless possibilities of knitting, and the complexities of the resulting structures.
In my years of teaching, I have shared the body of knowledge acquired through these explorations.
After in-person teaching at a design school ended, I have continued such shares in this blog and in my online participation in machine knit forums and discussion groups.
My blog contents are based chiefly on my knitting experience with Brother punchcard machine models including and after the issue of the 830, 4.5 mm machine, occasionally the Brother 260, 9 mm bulky, and on the use of electronics limited to the Brother 910 and 930, and the Passap E6000.
I choose not to publish patterns, rather, I attempt to offer content that might spark curiosity and exploration on the part of its readers, and help them develop their own designs, perhaps even outside the limits of their previous comfort zone.

  1. Hi Sandy,

Happy New Year! Hope you are doing well. I’d love to meet up to play with knitting and circuits if you are up for it.

    Best,
    Fay
