NYT on this fall’s knits

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

“Chunky, cabled, caped or cropped, it’s what’s up top. Below, T stylist Vanessa Traina talks about the varied ways to wear the season’s most compelling sweaters: “Belt them, wear them with a pencil skirt, really push it with the colors. Just have fun and don’t take the knit too seriously.” A video included.

Comments on my posts

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

I am happy to receive these. For the moment however,  I have cleared all comments from public viewing until I increase my learning curve on how to change and better control some of the wordpress template discussion features. For those that have been kind enough to ask whether it is “OK” to share my blog articles please feel free to do so; I would appreciate credit as the author  or a link to my site being provided as the source of the shared information. I will continue to read any comments left for me, and please also note, there is a contact me link to the right for direct e mail to me. TIA.

OY!

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Home repairs, new computer, family distractions: to quote John Lennon, ““Life is what happens to you while youre busy making other plans”. I hope to return to my ramblings and maybe even some actual knitting over the next week. A quick note of thanks for the many comments left by visitors in the interim.

I have often had mixed feelings about Vogue Knitting. They have a new web presence . Please note that, as explained by the publisher, you may encounter some issues when visiting. Choppiness may be due to gap between download and play speeds, may resolve itself or page may have to be refreshed. If the latest version of Adobe Flash player is not available or capable of being installed in your computer, the screen may be blank or absent. That said, this is a different way to view their knit offerings, entice new magazine subscriptions, or simply to find some inspiration and ideas.

For those with Mac OS X 10.5 or later, Intel only, Google Chrome is free and installs in minutes. It has a translation component that can help when you come across pages written in other than your spoken languages.

Newsletter

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

I have had many inquiries as to whether I publish a newsletter, the answer is no, I have no plan to. My post from 4/28 “A note of thanks” provides other pertinent comments and answers to some of the commonly recurring questions.

A note of thanks/feedback

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

I have been on “vacation” visiting family for a while, and upon my return found a deluge of comments, and several questions. I want to express my thanks to everyone who has taken the time to leave their remarks, thought I would address some of them in a published post.
In terms of my website/blog editing I use the default WordPress template provided by my web-host. I have extremely limited skills in terms of blogging/online presence, found WordPress manageable.
Some of the links I provide use flash in the corresponding sites, that may be source of some of the problems encountered in loading/viewing part of the content, is beyond my control.
I welcome comments/feedback, but I am not seeking submissions of articles written by others. I taught for a very long time, am not actively doing so at the moment, my blog is intended to share some of what I know or as in the case of lace “discover” as I continue my knitting journey. I make an effort to provide accurate information; yes, it is my own “original” writing/rambling; if derived from other sources and there is no active web-link to origin, I make an effort to provide some footnote/reference.
Most information may be helpful/of interest to knitters who already “know” their machines.
As I have stated in the past, I use Brother (Knitking and now Taitexma “work” essentially the same way) primarily. If information is cross platform or applicable to other KM brands I will state so specifically.

A “figlet” moment

Friday, March 4th, 2011

When I taught, I felt the need to come up with a “clean’ expletive for moments that simply required one, mine was “figlet”. With nearly 60 inches of shawl knit, this “magically” happened.

I now have about 120 + rows of carriage transfers and knitting to undo to get back to a place I can hopefully repair/continue from. Am trying to convince myself it will be a meditative undertaking. Happiness is not doing this type of knitting for a day job: double figlet!
